Dr. Gambino's background in Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Behavioral Therapy along with his emphasis on collaboration with the child and their family creates a strong foundation for treatment. Dr. Gambino has experience working in multiple clinics and school districts with children of various backgrounds. Dr. Gambino believes even with his expertise in evidence-based treatment modalities, a child's family are the experts in their child. A strong collaboration between Dr. Gambino and the key adults in the child's life is crucial for the course of treatment. Dr. Gambino also had the opportunity to work with children, in every grade, from pre-school through college. This opportunity of seeing children/adults in various stages of their physical, emotional, and psychological development helps in treatment with a child. While playing basketball at Kean University, Dr. Gambino's goal was to become a better basketball player every day. He continues this mindset as a psychologist. Dr. Gambino views himself as a forever student, spending time every day furthering his skills and knowledge as a psychologist. He is consistently learning how to better tailor evidence-based practices for children and their families of all backgrounds.

What to expect on the first session?

The first session is called an "intake." This time is used to meet with the parent(s)/guardian(s) and collect important background information regarding the child. This will include medical, family, and psychological history as well as current symptoms. Dr. Gambino may also speak with the child if time permits. Intakes lasts one hour.

What should I tell my child?

Parent(s)/Guardian(s) should explain to their child that they will be speaking with someone that will help them. A psychologist is a doctor of feelings and is there to listen to you. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may also say they have already met with Dr. Gambino and believe he will help you with how you're feeling. During a session, children are encouraged to bring a toy, stuffed animal, or other comfort object to help them feel comfortable. Dr. Gambino may encourage the parent(s)/guardian(s) to initially join the session until the child feels comfortable.
